About St. Pete's Beach
St. Pete's Beach, Florida, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Florida area. In fact, only about 70% of the residences in St. Pete's are owned by people who live there all year long. The rest of the dwellings are owned by people who were so enchanted with the small coastal city that they chose to purchase vacation homes so that they could visit more often. St. Pete's is home to miles of pristine white sandy beaches that provide access to some of the clearest blue ocean waters in the United States.
Several Cities in One
Before 1957, St. Pete's Beach was actually several different cities. Four different cities were consolidated to form the municipality of St. Pete's Beach as it is recognized today. Originally named St. Petersburg Beach, the residents voted to shorten the name to St. Pete's so that it would not be confused with another Florida city called St. Petersburg. St. Pete's Beach has been redesigned to accommodate the large number of visitors it receives each year. There are thousands of locations that offer dining, shopping, and hotel services for tourists. Visitors on a budget of any size will find something delightful to do in St. Pete's Beach.
Historic Destinations and Museums
St. Pete's Beach, Florida, is home to the Armed Forces Military Museum, which houses the largest collection of military memorabilia in Florida. The museum also offers interactive displays and dioramas that are as entertaining as they are educational. The Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Pete's provides a thorough study of the events that led up to the Holocaust and the events that occurred during World War II. Visitors can also enjoy walking through authentic historic fishing villages and learning how the Florida fishermen earned their living in St. Pete's Beach hundreds of years ago.
Water Sports and Nature Destinations
Anyone looking for excitement in nature will find plenty of opportunities to find it in St. Pete's Beach, Florida. Guests can fish along the beaches and piers, or take charter boats out into deeper water and try their luck at the larger ocean fish. Kayaking is available through vendors along the coastline, as are tours of the coast in luxury boats.
